Living Out the Acts 1:8 Mission Together

The Church On the Hill

People are looking for something — something to fill a void inside of them. Yet, we, the people, are notorious for avoiding the things we really crave — relationship. Relationships “dent” our lives; they leave a mark that isn’t easily removed or forgotten — an impression. FBBC provides a community where we can overcome the tendency to avoid the relationships that we are made for, a place where the love of God can be impressed on us.

Meet the Team

Lead Pastor

Pastor Mark came to FBBC in 1998 fresh from Rochester, NY. He was the youth pastor for many years before becoming our fearless Lead Pastor in 2012. As a former professional baseball player, the first task Mark was given, when he arrived, was to build ADP SportsPark. He has worked hard to develop strong relationships with people and leaders of his Blue Springs. He and Sheryl have three daughters and three grandchildren.

Executive Pastor

Pastor Duane became part of FBBC in 2010 and was brought on staff as our Executive Pastor in 2014. While we keep him busy with the office business of the church, he does an awesome job leading worship on Sunday mornings. We guess we’ll keep him! If you’re new to the area, Duane is our resident food critic and can point you in the direction of the best tacos in town. Duane and his wife, Teresa, have four kids and four grandchildren.

Associate / Youth Pastor

Pastor Josh joined FBBC in 2016 and came on staff in July 2020. He is currently our go-to guy for all building and facilities needs and ADP SportsPark maintenance. But even more important, he is also our energetic youth pastor for our Junior High and High School students! A few of Josh’s favorite things: snacks, pickles, basketball and the raccoons that jump out of the dumpster when he takes out the trash. Josh and his wife, Addie, have four children.

Assistant Pastor

Pastor Bryon has been part of First Bible for 25 years. He came on staff as the Children’s Ministry Director in 2009 where he stayed until God called him and his family as missionaries to Zambia, Africa. After coming back from Africa, Bryon rejoined the staff full time as our Assistant Pastor in 2021. Bryon heads up our Bible Institute, Discipleship, Regional Missions and also leads our Engaged Sunday Group. Bryon and his wife, Tammy, have four children and several grandchildren.

Discover First Bible

If you are interested in becoming a member of First Bible Baptist Church, please contact the church office to schedule an appointment to meet with the pastor. You can also request our Discover First Bible booklet. Discover First Bible allows you to find out more about the inner workings of the ministries at First Bible Baptist Church. The booklet covers key elements for the church’s foundation, as well as God’s direction for our church and provides the information necessary for you to decide if you want to passionately partner with us to do God’s kingdom work.

Welcome to First Bible Luncheon

Meet the Pastoral and Leadership Team over lunch after 2nd Service. This is a perfect opportunity to fellowship with the leadership of our church and others who have visited in the recent weeks. It will be a welcoming setting that lends itself to ask questions about First Bible with those “in the know.”

In 2025, our Welcome to First Bible Luncheon will be offered each quarter: 3/2, 6/1, 9/14 and 11/2.

Our Journey

There are many stories in every journey and First Bible Baptist Church in Blue Springs is no different. We recognize each part of the journey that has brought us to where we are as a church today. More than 20 years later, we look forward to where God will lead.

From KC to Eastern Jackson County

The members of First Bible Baptist Church began meeting August 18, 1996, in room 102, at Kansas City Baptist Temple (now Graceway). Rick Johnson, the missions pastor at KCBT at the time, captured a vision. That vision was Eastern Jackson County including Blue Springs, Lee’s Summit, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, and Odessa. He saw a need for strong, Bible-believing and Bible-teaching churches.

A Home In Blue Springs

First Bible Baptist Church met downstairs in KCBT for several months, conducting its own services, yet within the walls of another church. On February 4, 1997, the church began meeting at Vesper Hall in Blue Springs. On May 4, 1997, Kansas City Baptist Temple officially commissioned First Bible Baptist Church.

Over the next few years, God’s blessing was evident on First Bible Baptist Church. In 1999, FBBC purchased 25 acres of land, on a hill, overlooking a prime thoroughfare in Blue Springs. The church broke ground on the land to begin construction in July of 2001 and opened its doors in June of the following year. Since then, God has continued to bless our ministry and church family in ways we cannot even measure. What a journey this has been … and it’s really just beginning!
